To celebrate the 50th anniversary of South Coast Plaza, the Tony shopping and dining destination founded by the late retail magnate Henry Segerstrom, restaurateur/chef Antonio Cagnolo will honor his legacy by serving his favorite meal throughout March. Gamberi alla Henry, large prawns cooked in a light San Marzano tomato sauce with Sicilian olive oil and oregano, will be prepared table side for guests who want to taste the very dish that brought the two men together 40 years ago. Served with toasted rustic bread, the entrée will be available at Antonello Ristorante Antonello 3800 South Plaza Drive
Santa Ana, California, 92704 at South Coast Plaza Village during lunch and dinner for $28.
“I owe my entire career to this very gracious and kind visionary who changed the face of retail so many years ago,” said Cagnolo. “Mr. Segerstrom loved the gamberi dish and really enjoyed it being prepared tableside.”
Cagnolo met Segerstrom in 1977 when he was managing Alfredo’s, a restaurant situated at the Westin South Coast Plaza. He encouraged the Italian native to launch his own restaurant and two years later, Antonello Ristorante opened its doors. Cagnolo has since emerged as a dynamic force in OC’s dynamic restaurant scene having received honor after honor.
Cagnolo also owns and operates 2 other South Coast Plaza establishments that have proven to be favorites. Quattro Café is a 104-seat dining establishment featuring specialty pasta dishes and entree selections; and Antonello Expresso Bar serves gourmet coffee drinks as well as homemade baked goods and sandwiches.
Highly rated in the Zagat Guide for several years, Antonello Ristorante has earned a sterling reputation for having served local residents as well as luminaries the world over including presidents, foreign dignitaries, movie stars, entertainers, industrialists and other leaders. Co-Chefs Salvatore Ferrara and Gino Buonanoce work closely with Chef/Owner Cagnolo to develop daily specials and special prix fixe menus many paired with wines and other spirits. The menu items boast high flavor profiles, organic ingredients and light approach to preparing them.
