Yes, there is a National Margarita Day and since Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill at South Coast Plaza is known for its extensive menu of the famed drink the restaurant is offering guests their first 5 oz “Little Larry” on 2/22 (read Feb. 22) for $2.22. For the spirits-challenged, the margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila mixed with triple sec and lime or lemon juice, often served with salt on the glass rim.  The restaurant also announced that its famed freshly made margarita mix will now be sold to the public (1/2 gallon for $4.99) beginning on National Margarita Day.

The drink has been around since 1948 when a wealthy Dallas socialite, Margaret “Margarita” Sames, began concocting a tequila based beverage as a refreshment for her friends as they sunned by the pool. It has since become the most common tequila-based cocktail in the United States.  The drink can be served shaken with ice, on the rocks, frozen or straight up.
