2 of Costa Mesa's hidden gems for the foodie in all of us, at least in my opinion, are Cafe Rose on Scenic just before Hyland and Francesca's located at the Best Western Newport Mesa Inn on Newport Blvd. Keep in mind though I haven't tried the Wyndham's newly opened restaurant yet called the Silver Trumpet! At Cafe Rose a little tip, they are only open for breakfast & lunch and they close at 2:00. This recently opened little cafe is owned by parent company The Turnip Rose, so you know it has to be fantastic. The prices are reasonable and you can call your order in ahead of time because they get very busy at lunch time. I highly suggest the beef tacos, I know it sounds odd especially after you see their diverse menu but I am telling you they were fabulous - and for something sweet for dessert try the freshly baked oatmeal cookies! On the lighter side though their salads are heavenly!
Francesca's is the little "bistro" that serves the Best Western Inn, if you don't see what you want on her menu just ask and she'll most likely go out of her way to make it for you. I happen to know her pulled pork sandwich is the lunch special right now for $6.00 - she makes everything fresh, not like the processed stuff at some local sandwich places that shall remain nameless. Francesca is also a full service caterer, our board of directors raved about the food she made for their Christmas party! She even will make gluten free pizzas for you! She serves all 3 meals, stop in and say hi-tell her Sandy from the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce told you about her!
Other honorable mentions would be Old Vine Cafe at The Camp/The Lab, Antojitos, Nick's Italian Pizzeria, Plum's and for dessert Nothing Bundt Cakes on 17th Street of course! I hope this helps quench your appetite for something different in Costa Mesa. And soon we will be adding the the usual suspects list with Five Guys Hamburgers, Sonic Burger and Chik-fil-A! If you want to get a taste of Scott's Seafood at a price you can actually afford stop by on Wednesday, July 25 between 5:30 and 7:30 for our after hours networking mixer. Entry is $10 for non chamber members, $5 for chamber members and valet parking is $3.
