Oops, the quote was meant to be in the style of: "Sam Kinison." Late night, tired error. . .

Looked back, and saw that I wrote "poor," instead of, "pour."

Wouldn't be too hard to look back, since we don't have any new life to add to these great OC foodie pages. "Chowhound leaves us out, so we might as well just have our 15 contributors to: Try to eat everything in the county to narrow down the best for others!!"Al KIneson-delivery style, of course.

Thanks, Tracy.

Should I do La Botana-- at Avila's, when I've got Taco Mesa on the brain?

I love Mi Casa's Chicken Taco -- I posted about OC Foodies' Taco Tuesday Group on Examiner. Here's a link if interested. It includes a lot of good Taco Tuesday information too.

Jules and Brent,
At Avila's they have a carnitas plate that is called La Botana. It comes with limes, mole sauce, onions, cilantro, and fresh made on site tortillas with peppers. It is a huge plate you can share with a friend! This is Costa Mesa location.

Jules, I think that Ranchito also has $5 all-you-can-eat on Tuesdays. (I'm done at two tacos. . .but it's an FYI) It is often a mob scene on "beach bum" (Newport Penninsula location) Taco Tuesdays. I doubt that they have the carnitas in the AYCE chafing bin--so it's good to know (from Tracy) that one can just order two "good" carnitas tacos, and not have to participate in the feeding frenzy. They do poor a pretty good Marg, also. Can't vouch for the carnita, but I'll try it on Tracy's rec., as well.

Yes, they have a basket of 2 tacos for 2.95! It is my favorite Mexican food place bar none! The service is incredible also!

Thanks, Tracy. I'll add that to my dining list!

Do you know if they have taco tuesdays?

Jules, THE BEST carnitas IMO is Avila's El Ranchito in Costa Mesa. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Cha Cha’s Brings New Life to Old Mexico

By Rich Manning

When you hear the phrase “Mexican restaurant,” what initially comes to mind? Chances are, your bean is instantly populated with thoughts of buildings laid heavy with faux crumbling adobe, archways, and other amenities designed to mimic something from days of yore (or in Orange County’s case, days of Yorba).…

Don the Beachcomber by Rich Manning

The Polynesian motif has managed to cultivate a somewhat maligned reputation over the years in the food and drink scene. Once a proud beacon of trendy coolness, the setting designed to bring the wonders of the Pacific to the mainland have garnered a perception of forgettable food ma…

Haven Gastropub by Rich Manning

Last week, a friend and I were having a discussion about experiencing great food while we happily consumed fish tacos. After sharing a tale with me about how this particular chocolatier in New York City has permanently cast other chocolates in a lesser light, he confessed that his love for this cocoa-infused art led him to realize that he would gladly experience the best type of food the world has to offer, then spend the rest of his days in anger over the fact that the globe cannot offer anythi…

No Bull: Matador Cantina is Terrific

No Bull: Matador Cantina is Terrific

There is one constant ingredient in all Mexican food: love. Yes, I know that such a line sounds a bit hackneyed and cliched – okay it sounds a lot hackneyed and chiched – but it has always rung true in my experience. I grew up i…
