Why go vegetarian?

You’ll ward off disease. Vegetarian diets are more healthful than the average American diet, particularly in preventing, treating or reversing heart disease and reducing the risk of cancer. A low-fat vegetarian diet is the single most effective way to stop the progression of coronary artery disease or prevent it entirely. Cardiovascular disease kills 1 million Americans annually and is the leading cause of death in the United States. But the mortality rate for cardiovascular disease is lower in vegetarians than in nonvegetarians, says Joel Fuhrman, MD, author of Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss. Has anyone tried the new Native Foods in Aliso Viejo? I noticed lots of people and alot of great looking food but didn't try any of it.

I love Native Foods, I eat there at least three times a week. The Mad Cowboy is a must try as is the Soul Bowl. Azteca Salad is a taste layering orgy! The "Natives" (Staff) are awesome, Angie and her team do a great job of running things for Tanya the Chef/Owner. Try the iced Chai or the Native Iced Tea and tell them that Tracey from Downey's Chocolates sent you!!

I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this - but I'm not a vegetarian. :) I do, however, have days at a time where I just don't want to eat meat - and love some good vegetarian options. Any suggestions for a good place in the Placentia area?

No worries Beth! I'm not a veg either, although I do lean that way when I have an interesting vegetarian option on the menu. If you are in the Costa Mesa area you might consider Avanti Cafe on East 17th. Its a bit eclectic, sometimes hit and miss, but pretty damn good.

My December feature in OC LIFE Magazine is Xanh Bistro. A great Vietnamese restaurant located in the heart of Little Saigon. Check out the full article at www.oclifemagazine.com

LOVE Native Foods (a bit expensive, when you are trying to feed a family of 5). Also try The Veggie Grill at the Irvine Spectrum. Even if you don't have a kid with you, try the chocolate pudding! AMAZING!
