Not that it’s a bad region or anything, mind you – on the contrary, I have long been envious of its beautifully undulating landscape and how it compares to the painfully vanilla flatness of central OC. Really, its only flaw is that it suffers from the… Continue

Place your ham in a large roaster
Decorate it with Fresh Pineapple slices stuck to its sides with toothpicks
Sprinkle the ham with a little brown sugar and swirl some honey on top of that

Went to Cafe Zoolu in Laguna Beach last week. I was hungry and needed an emotional lift (financial markets got me down a bit). The best place to sit is at the bar so I sat my butt down. They serve no cocktails (beer and wine only), just great food, conversation and more. I happened to sit next to a 13-year boy, cool kid, smart, well behaved and insightful. His parents and 9-year-old brother were seated further down the bar. Struck up a conversation with the kid, Travis comes to Zoolu often with… Continue

Restaurant Weeks take place all over the Country (World for that matter). They are usually county wide events (like LA and San Diego) to encourage locals to dine all over. We all fall into the habit of dining at our favorite near by eateries, which is good! But we need to venture out and try new places, new flavors and a new atmosphere across city lines once in a while. Restaurant Week is the perfect time to do just that. Restaurants should woo and wow you during events like this. It… Continue

Sixty-seven eateries (some with multiple locations) across our fair county are signed up for the inaugural Orange County Restaurant Week starting Sunday, and the menus include some borderline ridiculous deals.

I attended the Cooking with the Experts Event at Bloomingdale's promoting Restaurant Week yesterday by Chef John Garcia - Restaurant 162' at the Ritz. I am an eater more than a cook but I really had a great time. He was adorable - he made a great endive and pear salad that was delicious that I will actually be able to make. But what I truly enjoyed was his passion and personality. You could tell he was a bit shy, he even made a comment - "once the chef coat comes on, it's like my superman cape,… Continue
