THROUGHOUT ORANGE COUNTY
· Thousands of homeless and impoverished Orange County families are in need of food, clothing, hygiene supplies and toys
· Orange County Rescue Mission pleas with community to give this season to help our neighbors affected by the recession enjoy a bountiful holiday
The Orange County Rescue Mission is making a plea to members of the Orange County community including local area business, churches, schools and corporations to donate food, clothing and toys to help meet the overwhelming need from homeless and impoverished families this holiday season.
“This year alone, the Orange County Rescue Mission has provided more than 782,004 meals to homeless and impoverished families throughout Orange County,” said Jim Palmer, President of the Orange County Rescue Mission. “That is 469,016 more meals than the previous year. The effects of the recession have been felt extensively by families here in Orange County who are struggling to make ends meet. The holidays are a particularly difficult time for those who are suffering. We are making a plea with the community to donate money and food to help us meet the tremendous need that exists in our area.”
The Orange County Rescue Mission provides meals to families living in motels, cars and on the streets, in addition to those seeking a better life at the Mission’s four facilities, including the Village of Hope, a state-of-the-art homeless facility in the city of Tustin, Calif.
“Due to the intense demand for assistance, we have experienced an ongoing shortage of key food staples that create the foundation for the food boxes we provide to hungry families,” added Palmer. “Now more than ever, we are asking the community to remember that every donation, regardless the size, has a positive impact on our ability to meet the needs of homeless families. We are in need of perishable items such as meat and non-perishable food staples such as peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, tuna and dry cereal.”
The Orange County Rescue Mission also provides homeless and impoverished families with hygiene kits, clothing and toys to help families in need have the basic necessities of life. With so many families in need of assistance, the Orange County Rescue Mission is also making a plea for donations of diapers, baby wipes and laundry detergent to help care for the most vulnerable homeless population, the children. Donations of gift cards to grocery chains and other stores including Target and Walmart are also accepted to help meet these needs.
The Orange County Rescue Mission accepts donations at the Village of Hope warehouse Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
