Sprinkle the ham with a little brown sugar and swirl some honey on top of that

In the base of the pan add “about a 1/2 inch”… Continue

Cafe Zoolu

Went to Cafe Zoolu in Laguna Beach last week. I was hungry and needed an emotional lift (financial markets got me down a bit). The best place to sit is at the bar so I sat my butt down. They serve no cocktails (beer and wine only), just great food, conversation and more. I happened to sit next to a 13-year boy, cool kid, smart, well behaved and insightful. His parents and 9-year-old brother were seated further down the bar. Struck up a conversation with the kid, Travis comes to Zoolu often with… Continue

We want to know about your Orange County Restaurant Week Experiences.

Restaurant Weeks take place all over the Country (World for that matter). They are usually county wide events (like LA and San Diego) to encourage locals to dine all over. We all fall into the habit of dining at our favorite near by eateries, which is good! But we need to venture out and try new places, new flavors and a new atmosphere across city lines once in a while. Restaurant Week is the perfect time to do just that. Restaurants should woo and wow you during events like this. It… Continue

Chef John from Restaurant 162' at Bloomingdales Homestore

I attended the Cooking with the Experts Event at Bloomingdale's promoting Restaurant Week yesterday by Chef John Garcia - Restaurant 162' at the Ritz. I am an eater more than a cook but I really had a great time. He was adorable - he made a great endive and pear salad that was delicious that I will actually be able to make. But what I truly enjoyed was his passion and personality. You could tell he was a bit shy, he even made a comment - "once the chef coat comes on, it's like my superman cape,… Continue

Jason's Downtown Restaurant

Santa Ana is a difficult place to market a restaurant. So difficult, in fact, that some of the best strategies designed to get people to come to the city completely avoid naming the actual city itself. Case in point: South Coast Metro. Everyone knows that this successful region located just north of South Coast Plaza and the Arts district is merely southern Santa Ana in disguise. However, replacing the city’s true identity… Continue
