Located in San Juan Capistrano at 31738 Rancho Viejo Rd, Bad to the Bone BBQ is the first restaurant to offer “real pit BBQ” in Orange County – BBQ meats that are slow-cooked in a J&R all wood-burning pits over hickory wood for 12-24 hours. Founded by Marty Wells, a former rodeo cowboy and roper, Bad to the Bone BBQ is built on Oklahoma and rodeo tradition, offering ribs, brisket, tri-tip and pulled pork as well as traditional side dishes, chocolate pecan pie, beer, wine and cocktails. An on-site General Store offers pre-packaged grab-and-go meals and takeout. Named “Best BBQ” in The Orange County Register’s Best of Orange County 2015 poll, Bad to the Bone BBQ is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, serving specially-priced drinks and appetizers. Bad to the Bone BBQ recently expanded to open a 2,500-square-foot Event Center, available for semi-private gatherings for up to 125 guests. Catering and on-site grilling is also available.
