Expectant parents across America had until Labor Day to name their baby “Quinoa” for the chance to win $10,000 worth of food at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. When no baby Quinoa emerged, BJ’s was pleased to make a special delivery to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) – a $10,000 donation in support of the hospital’s mission. The contribution comes in celebration of two new entrees that were welcomed onto BJ’s EnLIGHTened Menu this summer—the Roasted Salmon Quinoa Bowl and Roasted Chicken and Spinach Quinoa Bowl.
In honor of the two new EnLIGHTened quinoa, BJ’s challenged expectant parents to name their newborns “Quinoa” for the chance to win $10,000 in BJ’s gift cards. No one took BJ’s up on the offer, so they donated the $10,000 to CHOC, a pediatric health care system serving children and families throughout Southern California.
“Our Baby Quinoa event was a huge success, but unfortunately no consumers named their baby ‘Quinoa,’ and therefore no one claimed the $10,000,” said Kevin Mayer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. “We knew the funds would be put to good use at CHOC, helping them continue their great work.”
Since 1964, CHOC’s mission has been to nurture, advance and protect the health and well-being of children through innovative care and state-of-the-art facilities. What started as a 62-bed children’s hospital—the first in Orange County—has grown into a nationally-recognized pediatric health care system with two hospitals, four centers of excellence, a Research Institute, and several health centers.
“Thank you, BJ’s, for the special delivery. Your donation will help to support CHOC’s Child Life Department, dedicated to normalizing, as much as possible, the hospital experience for our patients and their families,” said Denise Almazan, Director of Public Relations for CHOC.
BJ’s EnLIGHTened Menu items, all under 795 calories, are carefully crafted with a focus on what BJ’s puts in, not what it takes out.
