Red, White & Brew to Benefit Military Families

UVA Bar & Café teams up with Left Coast Brewing Co. to raise money in support of Fisher House Foundation. In honor of Fourth of July and US veterans, UVA Bar & Café in Downtown Disney will donate $1 of every “Red, White & Brew” featured burger and beer sold in the month of July to Fisher House Foundation. The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization provides “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military medical centers.

General Manager of UVA Bar & Café, Jason Peoples, explains, “Every month we feature a new ‘Burger of the Month’ with a suggested beer pairing. With Fourth of July coming up, we want July’s burger to be more than just a new item on the menu.” Combining their love for the American classic and desire to help veterans and their families, UVA Bar & Café reached out to Fisher House Foundation to pitch their idea of the “Red, White & Brew” menu. The menu will feature their “All-American” burger with aged white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, BBQ sauce, crispy onion strings and is accompanied with house made kettle chips. The burger can then be paired with Left Coast Brewing Company’s Del Mar St. Lager, a Dortmunder Style Export. For every All-American Burger and pint of the Del Mar St. sold, $1 will be directly donated to the Fisher House Foundation.

Since its inception in 1990, Fisher House Foundation has served over 250,000 families and saved families more than $282 million in lodging and transportation cost. There are currently 64 Fisher Houses, two of which are located right here in southern California, including the Greater Los Angeles Fisher House and the Naval Medical Center San Diego. Each house is generally 5,000-16,800 square feet and provides 8 to 21 suites for families to be housed. In addition to housing families, Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles program which uses donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members as well as Hotels for Heroes program where donated hotel points allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge.

“I love having the opportunity to share our love for burgers while giving back to such a notable cause at the same time,” says Peoples, “Too often we forget why we celebrate the Fourth of July. These men and women are one of the main reasons we maintain our independence to this day.” UVA Bar & Café is a part of the Patina Restaurant Group which also owns Catal Restaurant, Naples Ristorante & Pizzeria and Tortilla Jo’s in Downtown Disney.
