Tim Ho Wan will open their first-ever California location at Irvine’s Diamond Jamboree Shopping Center this spring. The 129-seat restaurant is slated to open in late March or April and will be the first in the U.S. to offer a takeout window in addition to full service.
What started 10 years ago as a small 20-seat restaurant in Hong Kong has become known worldwide for authentic Cantonese dim sum. Founded by chefs Mak Kwai Pui and Leung Fai Keung in 2009, the original Hong Kong location earned a Michelin star within its first year of operation and gained a cult following as the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant at the time.
Tim Ho Wan’s dim sum-focused menu features a variety of pan-fried, baked and steamed specialties, all of which are handmade to order using fresh ingredients. Highlights include Baked BBQ Pork Buns, Steamed Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow), Steamed Pork Spare Rib with black bean sauce, Pan-Fried Turnip Cake, Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, and Steamed Rice Rolls with BBQ pork, minced beef, or shrimp and Chinese chives. The Irvine restaurant will also offer yet-to-be-announced items exclusive to that location alongside draft beers, eco-friendly wines and a private sake label set to debut at grand opening.
