Time is Ripe for Heirloom Tomatoes at THE RANCH Restaurant & Saloon

It’s tomato season and that means THE RANCH Restaurant & Saloon in Anaheim will once again serve up the most delicious plate of tomatoes you’ve ever tasted. Ever.

Created by Executive Chef Michael Rossi, the Heirloom Tomato Salad reflects the true farm-to-table concept that typifies THE RANCH, and its ingredients work harmoniously to complete a dish that is sweet, salty, acidic and textured:

  • House-made BBQ Bacon: pork bellies cured in a blend of spices for 14 days, then smoked for 6 hours;
  • Point Reyes Blue Cheese: adds an ultra-creamy texture and just the right amount of blue flavor;
  • Fresh Basil and Apple Cider Vinaigrette: adds fresh, bright flavors

But the true secret of this dish is in its source – made with organic heirloom tomatoes from THE RANCH Restaurant’s very own Farm. Located in the Orange Park Acres, the 2-acre Farm is home to 800 heirloom tomato plants and 50 different varieties, including:  Big Rainbow, Green Zebra, German Queen, Lemon Boy, Taxi, Mr. Stripey, Pink Brandywine and Sun Gold Cherry.

The seeds are what make an heirloom tomato so special. Farmers select the plants that produce the best harvest then replant the seeds from season to season, each generation carrying on the desired traits of their “ancestors.”

Heirloom Tomato Salad is usually available July – September, but you won’t want to wait til summer ends to try it. Call 714.817.4200 to make a reservation, or visit theranch.com to read more about THE RANCH Restaurant.
