Today Water Grill opens its doors at Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza! For almost 30 years Water Grill has delivered a remarkable experience through its devotion to quality seafood and culinary skill. Costa Mesa the newest location and is King’s Seafood’s first in Orange County. Focusing on first-of-season seafood, Water Grill prides itself in offering the broadest selection of fin fish, oysters, crustaceans and shellfish to its guests.
The largest Water Grill to date, the nearly 18,000 square-foot restaurant and accompanying patio were designed in partnership with Hatch Design Group. Taking inspiration from a refurbished ship, the restaurant features reclaimed locally-sourced woods and authentic nautical components paired with rustic and iron finishes. A central copper-top bar anchors the space, while an additional bar is located in the outdoor patio area, offering a multitude of seating options. The 500-seat restaurant boasts several private dining options and multiple event spaces, ideal for intimate celebrations, business gatherings, large parties and charity events.
King’s Seafood Distribution, the company’s private seafood distribution operation based in Santa Ana, CA provides all the seafood for Water Grill’s menu. Streamlining the process from ocean to table, King’s Seafood Company provides the best quality and largest variety of available seafood to its 20 restaurants. Menus are crafted daily to account for freshly caught fish and seasonal culinary changes for Water Grill guest to enjoy.
Water Grill’s extensive menu is executed under the direction of Culinary Director Chef Damon Gordon. The raw bar and chilled shellfish menu showcases the pinnacle of freshness in its offerings, inclusive of an impressive selection of both Pacific and Eastern oyster varieties, as well as clams, scallops, lobster and crab. Available in three sizes, the Iced Shellfish Platters provide an incredible sampling of chilled shellfish. The exhibition kitchen showcases large sea water tanks displaying the ever-changing assortment of live products including Wild Barents Sea Red King Crab, Washington State Dungeness Crab, Santa Barbara Spot Prawns and local Spiny Lobster. The constantly evolving lunch and dinner menus feature more than a dozen varieties of fish options as well as a whole fish program, allowing guests to choose from in-season offerings with multiple preparation styles. Other lunch and dinner favorites include Wild Columbia River King Salmon with lemon nage and heirloom tomatoes, Wild Ross Sea Chilean Sea Bass with cauliflower purée, lemon chutney, hazelnuts, brown butter, and the Crudo Sampler with wild Tahitian bigeye tuna, wild eastern sea scallops, wild Columbia River king salmon. Rounding out the menu, Water Grill serves mouthwatering deserts such as Caramel Bread Pudding with alaea red sea salt, Banana Chocolate Sundae with chocolate covered corn flakes, and Warm Almond Cake with red wine poached apple, apple cider ice cream, and red wine caramel.
The weekend brunch menu is artfully served featuring Baked Salmon Rillettes with crème fraiche, mustard, dill and tobiko, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with lemon and vanilla syrup and sweet creamed ricotta, and Crab Benedict with jumbo lump blue crab, poached organic eggs and grilled asparagus, in addition to specialty morning cocktails including the “WG” Bloody Mary
dressed with an old bay salt rim, chilled blackened shrimp, and thick cut bacon and Ramos Gin Fizz with gin, fresh citrus, egg white, orange blossom, milk and soda.
Water Grill offers an expansive selection of sparkling, red, white, and rosé wines by the glass or bottle, in addition to beer and sake. Craft cocktails include the Bristol Street with vodka, fresh lemon juice, tarragon and strawberries on the rocks, Dark and Stormy with gosling's black seal rum, fresh lime and spicy ginger beer, and Campfire Sling with straight rye whiskey, maple syrup & chocolate bitters over block ice with scorched orange oil.
