Our Executive Director Ric Rhinehart and our Director of Community Events Marcus Boni recently attended the 2009 Let's Talk Coffee Event in Montelimar, Nicaragua. Let's Talk Coffee is organized by Sustainable Harvest and focuses on community building between all the coffee professionals that contribute from tree to cup.
"This event reminds us that we are all in this together" Ric told me when he returned. "We are all connected, and we must work to help each other succeed, find solutions, and ensure the future of specialty coffee-and those who derive their livelihoods from it". Ric also went into detail about some very interesting solutions discussed at LTC, including how honey bees may be a part of the future of economic sustainability in countries of origin.
Ric's presentation (embedded above) certainly left a resoundingly positive impression on many attendees (as they have echoed on our social networking sites & to the staff personally). Originally developed in 2005 together with Brett Smith of Counter Culture Coffee , the presentation was an overview of consumption economics of the coffee supply chain. Ric refreshed the information for this year's event, in part by incorporating research from SCAA's soon to be released Roaster Ratios Survey and Retailer Survey (available in the SCAA store mid-October!)
